Istanbul holds the First-ever World Humanitarian Summit on 23-24 May
The World Humanitarian Summit which was organized by UNOCHA with the initiative of Secretary General of the United Nations Ban Ki-moon and hosted by Turkey will bring together numerous world leaders. Officials from international and national agencies, official delegations, NGOs, members of parliaments, academicians, press members, representatives from private sector, youth and those who have been affected by crises are expected to participate in the Summit.
Turkey will share its experiences in the humanitarian area with the Summit
Safe harbour Turkey is currently hosting the largest number of refugees in the world. In this regard, Turkey will have the opportunity to share its experiences in the humanitarian field and exemplary implementation as well as its policy with the international community during the World Humanitarian Summit.
Turkey, the leading country in humanitarian aids
Turkey which has been following an "open door" policy for Syrian civilians since 2011 is currently hosting 3 million refugees of which 2,7 million are Syrians. Turkey has been responding more and more to the humanitarian crises all around the world and Turkey has spent over 10 billion USD for its activities in the humanitarian assistance field.
Turkey reaches out all corners of the world
Turkey has been lending a helping to the needy all around the world with its public institutions and agencies such as the Turkish Red Crescent, the Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD), the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency Directorate (TİKA) and numerous NGOs.
World Humanitarian Summit is promoted to the foreign press members
The promotion activities of the World Humanitarian Summit to reach out international public opinion are ongoing. In this context, the Directorate General of Press and Information is hosting various press delegations from all corners of the world. The delegations are paying visits to public-diplomacy related agencies and institutions in Ankara and in Istanbul as well as visiting refugee camps in Gaziantep.
